David can beat Goliath
An awards judge is urging small businesses to take on the big corporations.
Sylvia Tidy-Harris, who is a judge for the Orange National Business Awards, says David often does beat Goliath.
She said that tyre giant Goodyear Dunlop had come up with the 'run flat' tyre - seen as a major safety breakthrough - which was up against a biodegradable sandwich box, invented by the tiny snack firm FooGoo.
Writing in her Daily Telegraph Viewpoint column, Sylvia said:
"Impressive though the tyre was, it could only be fitted to certain high-value cars. But FooGoo had made something we could all see appearing in our local sandwich shop. Yes, they won."
The closing date for the Orange awards is 23 July. Click here for more details on how to enter.
