City banker's iron grip
A former City banker has swapped his pinstriped suit for the brown overalls of a hardware shop owner.
David Sleath 'downshifted' (he doesn't like the word 'downsize') after being made redundant three times.
He told the Times Online:
"I no longer wanted to be part of that sordid business, an industry driven by fear and greed."
He is now running a hardware shop in the Suffolk village of Clare and reckons that, taking the rent from a cottage at the back of his shop and a small Bank of Tokyo pension into account, he is now making more money than he was as a City mover and shaker.
