Odd investment ideas may not be enough to ensure that you have a decent pension.

As fears grow about pension shortfalls, it seems the money-savvy are starting to look at other ways of putting together a nest egg.

Property and shares are still top of the investment table, but nearly one in three people think they'll be able to fund their retirement by collecting signed celebrity photos and memorabilia.

The results are revealed in a survey by Aon Consulting, which is also warning collectors to make sure they have sufficient insurance to protect their investments.

Spokesman Ian Dearnley said:

"The average UK investor should be wary of directing too many funds towards the latest investment craze of buying signed photos of today’s hottest celebrity, or relying on a dusty bottle of Bordeaux to appreciate in value, without initially seeking proper investment advice.�
