Women wanted!

More women should put their entrepreneurial skills to use and start a business.

That's according to the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), which reckons women, ethnic minorities and people who don't live in London or the south east of England could be boosting the UK economy to the tune of £580 billion if they started their own businesses.

It found that most enterprises are started by white men living in the capital or the Home Counties - indeed, there are more small businesses there than in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland put together.

The Government must do more to promote enterprise elsewhere in the UK, the CBI says. Director-general, Sir Digby Jones, said:

"There must be proper support for businesses, and perhaps more importantly, the Government must invest in the transport infrastructure to ensure no region of the UK is left behind."
