Water warning for small firms

Small businesses like window cleaners and car washers could be facing a difficult summer. Firms that rely on a readily available source of water are waiting to see how the water companies' plans to deal with the forecast 'drought' will pan out.

Sutton & East Surrey Water's drought order has been approved - but it's not yet clear what effects it will have.

John Holbrow from the Federation of Small Businesses said:

"Small businesses will find it very hard to accept restrictions on water usage from water companies, including Sutton & East Surrey Water, that are still losing millions of litres per day in leakages.

"In granting this drought order the Environment Minister himself highlighted the need for the impact on small businesses to be minimised. We hope and expect that Sutton & East Surrey Water get the message."
