Skills 'Olympics' come to UK
An 'Olympics' for hairdressers, welders and other skilled tradespeople is coming to the UK.
The 2011 WorldSkills games will be held in London, after the capital beat bids from Sweden and Australia. The event is expected to attract competitors from around 40 different countries.
The games are held every two years and feature 40 different events, with the producers of the best and fastest work winning medals.
Education Secretary Alan Johnson told the BBC:
"We now have a unique chance, with the Government, business and the education sector working closely together, to raise the status of skills and vocational education dramatically, and inspire a new generation of youngsters to take up good careers in all sectors of the economy."
