Return of the pros
Small tradesmen and women can take advantage of a new trend - 'don't do it yourself'.
It would appear Britain's love affair with DIY is coming to an end, and homeowners are increasingly turning to the experts when they want a job done.
DIY giant B&Q suffered a 70% drop in profits for the first three months of 2006, echoing what is seen as a major trend in the market.
Ikea, however, is expanding because people are now using their skills to put together flatpack furniture rather than a new kitchen.
Richard Ratner, of stockbrokers Seymour Pierce, told Sky News:
"A lot of DIY-ers are actually beginning to realise that DIY doesn't always enhance the value of your home unless you are an expert and do it rather well."
