Porridge on the menu

Porridge could become the fast-food for the 21st century.

An Edinburgh businessman is celebrating after his Stoats Porridge Bars took the regional prize for the 2006 Shell Livewire Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards.

Tony Stone, 26, set up the business last year after he read that sales of porridge oats had risen by 25%, spurred on by followers of low glycaemic index (GI) diets. Breakfasters can take away tubs of porridge in flavours like chunky marmalade and brown sugar and cream.

Tony is setting up a second outlet in Inverness later this year.
