No excuses for staff shenanigans during World Cup

More than eight out of ten business owners reckon they won't stand for any shenanigans from their staff during the World Cup, which kicks off in less than a fortnight.

A survey of 600 small and medium-sized businesses found that skiving and hangovers - even if England lift the Jules Rimet trophy on 9 July - will not be tolerated.

And the strong-arm tactics are being backed by Employment Law Advisory Services, which carried out the research. Spokesman Peter Mooney told Ananova:

"Allowing staff to phone in sick just because they have a hangover sets a precedent which they or their colleagues may seek to exploit long after the final whistle has been blown - leaving employers in a difficult position."
