Forget suppliers, protect consumers
The competition watchdog has caused outrage by admitting it's OK for supermarket suppliers to go bust - as long as consumers get the best deal.
The comments were made by John Fingleton, the chief executive of the Office of Fair Trading (OFT), in an interview with the Mail on Sunday.
He said: "It would be ridiculous to keep prices artifically high to placate suppliers. There will always be winners and losers. If one company goes out of business, there will soon be another to take its place."
