Foodie entrepreneurs go back to school

Food-loving entrepreneurs may be better off opening a cookery school than a restaurant.

There's been massive growth in cooking classes in the UK, fuelled by the proliferation of celebrity chefs and the move towards healthier eating.

There are now thought to be around 50 schools for chefs and ordinary people who want to improve their culinary skills, many of which have opened since the Millennium.

Chico Francesco, who runs courses in north London, told the BBC website that his costs are about 50% lower than if he owned a restaurant.

He said:

"There is a real market out there for food education but I believe it will eventually reach a saturation point. People who established themselves early and who really deliver will be the ones that survive."
