Bosses welcome migrants

Migrant workers from across the European Union (EU) are being employed in low-paid jobs that British workers are too "lazy" to do, according to a new report.

The Joseph Rowntree Foundation said three-quarters of employers were happy with the situation and thought the foreign labour - mainly from Poland, Slovakia, Lithuania and the Czech Republic - was good for business.

The migrant workers were likely to be well-qualified but prepared to take unskilled, low-paid work in the UK.

The survey also found that firms were prepared to bend the rules, asking foreign staff to work longer hours and employing people who did not always have the right documentation to live and work in the UK.
