Small business owners could make big savings on their phone bills by using Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), if they understood what it was all about.

That's according to a report by telephony company Inclarity, which reckons more than three-quarters of small firms are simply confused by the new technology and what they can get from it.

The report says just one in eight small businesses are downloading the free VoIP packages which allow them to use low-cost phone and messaging services.
