Online minimum wage calculator
The TUC (Trades Union Congress) has launched an online minimum wage calculator, heralding its introduction with a shocking press release implying that employers are mean, miserly and penny-pinching and will attempt to cheat employees out of the minimum wage if at all possible.
It's true that there are employers out there who will fail to comply with the legislation, whether deliberately or through genuine mistakes, errors and problems. However, a great many more small business owners go out of business because of increases to the minimum wage.
The wage calculator from the TUC could be seen as a genuinely useful tool for business owners and employees alike. But to use its launch to label employers as miserly cheats is not helping anyone.
