Fat Duck takes a tumble

A British restaurant has lost its crown as the 'best in the world'.

The Fat Duck, in Bray, Berks, fell from pole position in the annual World's 50 Best Restaurants awards to number two. It was knocked off the top spot by Spanish restaurant El Bulli.

The Fat Duck's chef-patron is self-taught Brit Heston Blumenthal, who has won a string of awards for his innovation, including an OBE. The restaurant has been going for 11 years and the same team also runs the neighbouring Hinds Head pub.
