Search is on for Britain’s most enterprising city
The good old DTI launches its annual Enterprising Britain competition this week, with the aim of finding the place in Britain that does the most to promote enterprise. The competition, launched in 2004, highlights successful enterprise initiatives, identifying regional champions and an overall national winner.
Last year’s contest was won by Sherwood Energy Village in Nottinghamshire, a social enterprise that is transforming a former colliery site into a mixed used development featuring housing, industry and commerce, leisure and education, with the emphasis on energy efficiency and environmental stewardship.
Enterprising Britain is regarded as a key Government initiative to drive entrepreneurial activity across the UK.
A DVD presentation about last year’s competition is available from the DTI. Ordering the DVD, quoting reference URN05/DVD2, will help to add to the mountain of paperwork the department already sends out to businesses, at a cost of nearly £10,000 a day.
